OVERVIEW: Do you know what the Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) expect of acute care hospitals related to the new health equity standards or what the Joint Commission is looking for during visits regarding health equity? This webinar will cover best practices to meet these standards that support performance improvement. The speakers will provide an overview of these new standards that can be summarized by these overarching priorities.

  • Collecting key patient data;
  • Designating a leader to provide oversight on health equity;
  • Developing internal talent with a focus on increasing their capabilities to address diverse populations; and
  • Engaging the community in addressing social determinants of health.

The speakers will also discuss the American Hospitals Association’s Institute for Diversity and Health Equity’s Health Equity Roadmap and how this Roadmap supports hospitals’ compliance to these new standards. Time will be available to ask questions about the standards, the AHA’s Health Equity Roadmap, and related documents and process.

  • Discuss the regulatory definition of health equity;
  • Examine health equity initiatives related to access to care, addressing social determinants of health, and culturally effective care;
  • Discuss examples and data related to impact of health inequities in key populations, such as pregnant women, people with diabetes, and people in the LGBTQ community;
  • List the four strategies for advancing health equity that are linked to the new standards by CMS, The Joint Commission, and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA);
  • Describe strategies for using information learned from implementation of new regulatory standards to support enhanced effectiveness of performance improvement efforts for all populations.

  • Arlesia Bailey, Principal Consultant, Arlesia Consulting, LLC; Maria Hernandez, PhD, President and COO, Impact4Health; and Stephanie Hillman, MNPL, Senior Consultant, Impact4Health
